CHANDIGARH FOOTBALL & HOCKEY
ACADEMY
Sh. M. L. Sharma, PCS, Director Chandigarh Football &
Hockey Academy
INTRODUCTION Chandigarh Football Academy was conceived and inaugurated by H.E.,
Lt. Gen. J.F.R. Jacob, PVSM (Retd.), by the then Governor of
Punjab and Administrator U.T. Chandigarh on 07.8.2000 and 24
inmates in the age group of 9-10 years were admitted in it. On
completion of terms of 7 years, the trainees were passed out in
March` 07 immediately after the annual examination of their
respective classes.
FOOTBALL ACADEMY-SENIOR
With the results shown by the senior football players the second
batch of 24 footballers in the age group of 10-11 years were
enrolled during the financial year 2004-05. The tenure of
trainees as per the agreements has been fixed as 7 years and
they shall be passed out from the academy in March` 2011.
JUNIOR STRING IN PLACE OF SENIOR FOOTBALL TRAINEES (PASS OUT)
The junior batch of football trainees in the age group of 10-11
years was inducted in July` 2007 in place of the senior football
trainees who were passed out in March` 2007 on completion of
their 7 year tenure in the academy. The tenure of junior string
has been fixed as 7 year as per the agreement signed with the
parents of the trainees and they shall pass out from the academy
in March` 2014.
HOCKEY ACADEMY-SENIOR (PASS OUT)
Keeping in view the success of Football Academy, the
Administrator U.T. Chandigarh introduced Hockey Academy w.e.f.
01st July, 2002, in which 24 players (Male) in the age group of
11-12 years were admitted and are being provided all the
facilities as are being provided to the football players. The
terms of the hockey trainees was kept as six year and they
passed out from the academy in March` 08.
The Academy has now been re-named as “Chandigarh Football &
Hockey Academy”.
HOCKEY ACADEMY-SENIOR
24 hockey trainees in the age group of 9 to 11 years were
enrolled in May` 2005 as second string in the junior hockey and
their tenure has been fixed as 7 year i.e. 2012 as per the terms
of the agreement signed with the parents of the trainees.
JUNIOR STRING IN PLACE OF SENIOR HOCKEY TRAINEES (PASS OUT)
The junior batch of Hockey trainees in the age group of 10-11

GIRLS HOCKEY ACADEMY
Chandigarh Girls Hockey Academy was conceived by Gen. (Retd.)
Dr.
S. F. Rodrigues, PVSM, VSM, the then Administrator of UT, Chandigarh
and 24 girl’s inmates in the age group of 13-14 years were
admitted in it. On completion of terms of 5 years, the trainees
shall be passed out in March` 2012 immediately after their
annual examination of their respective classes.
CHANDIGARH CRICKET ACADEMY
Chandigarh Boys Cricket Academy was conceived by Gen. (Retd.)
Dr.
S. F. Rodrigues, PVSM, VSM, the then Administrator of UT, Chandigarh
and 24 inmates in the age group of 9-10 years were admitted in
it. On completion of terms of 7 years, the trainees shall be
passed out in March` 2014 immediately after their annual
examination of their respective classes.
CHANDIGARH GIRLS CRICKET & FOOTBALL ACADEMIES
Gen. (Retd.) Dr.
S. F. Rodrigues, PVSM, VSM, the then Administrator of
UT, Chandigarh passed orders to introduce Girls Cricket & Girls
Football Academies from the financial 2008-09 and 24 inmates in
the age group of 12-13 years shall be admitted in the respective
academies. File for sanction of funds etc. is under
consideration. The terms of agreement of Girls trainees shall be
kept as 5 years, as has been approved in the case of Girls
Hockey trainees.
Schemes of CFHA
A conducive environment has been provided for specific
coaching and training on scientific basis to achieve par
excellence at National/International level. The aim of
academy is to develop the game of Cricket, Football & Hockey
in Northern Region as well as to inculcate the sports
culture. The main object to this academy is to produce
outstanding Cricket, Football & Hockey players of National
and International standard.
BUDGET
The Sports Department, Chandigarh Administration has been
allotted funds of Rs. 03 Crore as grant in aid to the
Chandigarh Sports Council during the financial year 2008-09
to meet with the day to day expenditure of all the
academies, including Chandigarh Sports Council. Rs. 98/-
(revised to Rs. 160/- per head per day w.e.f. July, 2008)
per head per day on diet and refreshment per trainee is
being paid to the Mess contractor on account of diet
charges, including of refreshment given at ground and Tiffin
for School. The Sports Council has been meeting the
expenditure on Equipments, Uniform, Schooling, Sports Kit,
salary to the employees and tutors engaged for the
supervised studies of the trainees.
FACILITIES
Free boarding, lodging, uniform, bedding, sports material
and other allied equipments, Schedule attached ALL FREE.
STUDIES
The inmates of Sr. & Jr. Hockey academy have been admitted
in Govt. Model High School, Sector-42, Chandigarh, Sr.
Football in the Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector-37,
Chandigarh, Jr. Footballers in Govt. Model High School,
Sector-36, Cricket trainees in Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School,
Sector-35 and Girls Hockey trainees are studying in Govt.
Girls Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector-18, Chandigarh. The
trainees are being providing free Education and all other
expenditure on their Books and other school related items
are being born by the Academy. 08 tutors has been engaged
for the supervised studies of the trainees, including of
Girls Hockey trainees.
EXPOSURES
The CFHA has been organizing matches for giving the
exposures to its trainees to provide competition to improve
the standard of the game. Administrator Football Tournament
is being arranged during the month of September every year
at All India level basis. The CFHA has got direct
affiliation with the Indian Hockey Federation for the
participation in the National Tournaments of academy hockey
team in the name of Chandigarh Hockey Academy.
FOREIGN TOURS
The CFHA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with
the Sportscheule Egidious Braun, Leipzig, Germany for the
advance training of football trainees twice in a year. 1st
batch was sent in May, 07 and 2nd batch in November` 07 for
a period of 15 days. From the financial year 2008-09, period
of coaching has been extended from 15 to 21 days and 1st
batch of 15 trainees visited Germany from 06th to 26th May`
08. Second batch shall be sent in Oct./Nov, 2008.

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS OF SENIOR FOOTBALL ACADEMY (PASS OUT)
- Pre Subroto Mukherjee Cup, July-2002. The Education
Department, Chandigarh Administration conducted the Pre
Subroto Mukherjee Tournament and players of the Chandigarh
Football Academy emerged as winner in the tournament (Winner)
- Chandigarh Junior Challenge Trophy U-14, Sept, 2002. Sports
Department, Chandigarh Administration organized Chandigarh
Junior Challenge Trophy Tournament in Sept, 2002 in the age
group of U-14. The teams from Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh
took part in the tournament and the Football Academy team again
won the trophy. Winner
- U.T. Inter School Tournament U-14, Oct, 2002. Education
Department, Chandigarh Administration organized Inter School
U-14 years Football Tournament, in which School teams of U.T.,
alongwith St. Stephen Football Academy & Sanjay Public School
Academy team took part. Chandigarh Football academy team retain
the title of winner, despite of the fact that Chandigarh
Football Academy was incepted in Aug, 2000. Winner
- Master Aakib Javed was declared Best Player of the Tournament
in the age group of U-14 years in the Subroto Mukherjee Cup held
at New Delhi in Dec., 2002. -
- Master Rakesh Kumar attended India camp U-14 years conducted
by the All India Football Federation held at Jamshedpur for the
selection of Indian team, which took part in the SAARC
tournament Nov., 2002, conducted under the aegis of Asian
Football Federation. -
- The Chandigarh Football Team secured third place in the School
Nationals Football tournament U-14 years held at Jammu in Dec.,
2002. There were as many as 09 players of Chandigarh Football
Academy, which represented the Chandigarh School team in the
said tournament 2nd Runner up
- The Football team of CFHA participated in the Subroto Mukerjee
Football cup tournament held at new Delhi in Dec. 2003 and
reached Semi Finals. The Player of the Tournament was given to
Master Gagandeep, a trainee of CFHA, alongwith Fair Play Trophy
of the tournament. -
- 06 players of CFHA were spotted out during the Subroto
Mukerjee Cup Tournament-2003 and they were called for selection
trials followed by Coaching Camp at Madgaon (Goa). ) 5 players
namely Master Pawan Kumar, Gorjot Singh, Sukhwinder Kumar, Aakib
Javed & Gagandeep represented India U-14 team, which took part
in the AFC U-14 Festival Football 2004 Tournament in Nepal
starting from 5th April, 2004. Indian team secured 2nd position
in the Tournament. Pawan Kumar of CFHA was Captain of the Indian
team. -
- Pawan Kumar has again been invited by the FIFA as Goal keeper
to represent India in the U-17 team. -
- U.T. Inter School Tournament U-15, Nov, 2004. Education
Department, Chandigarh Administration organized Inter School
U-15 years Football Tournament. Chandigarh Football academy team
retain the title of winner. Winner
- Chandigarh Junior Challenge Trophy U-16, Jan. 2005.Sports
Department, Chandigarh Administration organized Chandigarh
Junior Challenge Trophy Tournament in Jan. 2005 in the age group
of U-16. The teams from Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh took part
in the tournament and the Football Academy team again won the
trophy. Winner
- 03 Sr. Football players, namely Sukhwinder, Randeep & Jaspal
Singh attended U-16 Coaching Camp by Football Federation of
India at S.A.I. Bangalore from 15th May to 15th June, 2005. One
more player namely Ravinder Singh was also called on 10.6.05 by
the F.I.F.A. for the said coaching camp. -
- 13 Football players of CFHA selected by Chandigarh Football
Association for U-16 Coaching Camp. They represented India in
3rd BKSP U-16 Football Tournament 2005, held at Dhaka
(Bangladesh) from 9th to 16th July, 2005. The Chandigarh team
reach upto semi finals. -
- 02 Football players of CFHA, namely Sukhwinder Kumar and
Ravinder Singh invited to attend U-16 (boys) coaching camp at
Goa from 25th July, 2005 to 05th Sept. 2005. -
- Pawan Kumar of CFHA invited by AIFF to attend U-19
Coaching camp-cum- selection trials at Kolkata
w.e.f.25th July, 2005.
- CFHA football team won Chandigarh Sub-Junior Boys Football
Championship for U-16 held at Football Stadium, Sector-17,
Chandigarh on 21.08.2005 and retain the Mahatma Hans Raj Trophy.
Amongst the 03 best players of the tournament, Master Randeep
Singh of CFHA was one of them. Winner
- The Football team of CFHA also won Six-a-side Football
tournament played at St Xavier’s Sr. Sec. School, Sector-44 on
21.08.205. Winner
- 02 Footballers of CFHA, namely Ravinder Singh & Sukhwinder
Kumar selection for exposure-cum-training tour to Portugal of
India U-17 football team from 1st to 20th Sept, 2005. -
- CFHA football team won the Sub Jr. (U-17) Challenge Cup
Football tournament 2005-06 held on 6.9.2005 at Chandigarh.
Winner
- The Football team of CFHA participated in the Subroto
Mukerjee Football cup tournament held at new Delhi in Oct-Nov.
2005 and reached in Finals. The final was played on 13th Oct.
2005 with Nepal team and the CFHA lost the match with 5-6 in tie
breaker. Master Gagandeep, trainee of CFHA, was declared best
promising player and was awarded CRD100 Motor Cycle. Master
Prabhjot Singh was adjoined as best Goalkeeper of the
tournament. Runner up
- Master Pawan Kumar, Sr. Football player selected U-20 (male)
coaching camp by AIFF in Jan. 2006 and participated in grand
Royal-2005 Challenge Cup in Mayuanmar in Oct-Nov. 2005. -
- 09 players of Sr. Football Academy represented Chandigarh in
U-17 National School Football tournament held at Andman &
Necobar during Feb. 2006 and the team secured 1st position.
Gurjot Singh, Robin Singh, Gurjinder Singh, Abdul Shamim, Amit
Negi, Gurpreet Singh, Jaspal singh, Jagdeep Singh & Harinder
Singh participated. -
- CFHA won the All India six-a-side football tournament held at
Kolkatta during last week of May, 2006 and qualified for world
level tournament to be held in Berlin (Germany) in first week of
July, 2006. Sukhdeep Singh, Gagandeep, Aakib Javed, Randeep
Singh, Rakesh Kumar & Pawan Kumar participated. Winner
- Master Sukhdeep Singh, Gagandeep, Aakib Javed,Randeep Singh,
Rakesh Kumar & Pawan Kumar of CFHA football team participated in
Addidas World Cup six-a-side football tournament held at Berlin
(Germany) in 1st week of July, 2006. . Football Academy players
won as many as 04 matches from the following countries and lost
to Brazil by 0-2:-

- Master Rupinder Pal Singh & Dharamvir Singh selected
for Punjab team for participation in the 62nd National
Hockey Championship, held at Amritsar from 20th Oct to
3rd Nov. 2006. Rupinder Pal Singh declared Best Full
Back (Half line) and got cash prize of Rs. 2500/- due to
his outstanding performance.
- CFHA Sr. Hockey team participated in Nehru Cup
(U-16) Hockey Tournament at New Delhi from 4th to 13th
Nov. 2006 and reached in semifinals. The team lost
semifinals which was played between Guru Harkrishan
Public School (GHPS), Delhi by 0-01. The team played for
3rd position with Union Academy, Delhi and won the match
by 4-2. 2nd Runners up

| Apr |
The boys shall be provided with maximum
exposure. The team shall be playing maximum number of
matches in the new training period. The Academy team
shall play practice matches with Rurka Kalan & Malilpur
teams in this month. |

May & June |
In the first & 2nd week of May the
academy team shall play practice matches with the teams
of Mahilpur, D.D.A. & Gurdaspur etc. In the last
week of May the academy team shall be sent for atleast
15 days exposure tour to Goa, where the team shall play
five to six matches with various academy and reputed
teams of the region. |

The teams from the neighboring areas shall
be invited to play football matches with the academy
boys. |
|
| Aug |
The academy team shall participate in
local tournament in Chandigarh, as the Annual Challenge
Cup shall be organized in the month of Sept. 2006. Attempt
shall be made to provide maximum number of practice
matches to the team, to enable the team to participate
successfully in the coming challenge Cup. The tournament
shall be for the age group of U-17. |

The prestigious annual Subroto Cup is
likely to be staged in the month of Oct. 2006. All efforts
shall be made to the team to deliver its best in the
said tournament. The academy team shall participate
in the Pre Subroto matches at Chandigarh. The teams
from the different neighboring areas shall be invited
to play friendly matches with the Academy team. |

The team shall participate in the Subroto
Mukherji Tournament at Delhi. |

| Nov |
The academy team shall participate in
the inter School U-17 Tournament. The academy team shall
start playing invitational competitions from this month.

The academy team shall be sent to Bangladesh
for much needed International level exposure. |
