Zila Sainik Welfare Office
Zila Sainik Board (UT) was constituted on 01 Apr 1978 to
look after the welfare and resettlement of ex-servicemen,
servicemen, widows and their dependents residing in UT
Chandigarh. Prior to 1978 they were being looked after by
the District Soldiers, Sailors & Airmen Board, Ambala Cantt.
The present Zila Sainik Board was re-designated as Zila
Sainik Welfare Office on 11 Jan 1985 with Zila Sainik
Welfare Officer nominated as head of the office and is
located in Sector 21-D, Chandigarh. The Department is under
Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh and Home Secretary is the
Administrative Secretary for the Department.

Activities
The following welfare activities are undertaken by Zila
Sainik Welfare Office :
- For ex-servicemen
- To issue ex-servicemen identity cards.
- To issue medical treatment cards with details of
families.
- To assist in settlement of pension cases.
- To provide re-employment assistance.
- To conduct training for ex-servicemen to improve
their employment prospects.
- Attestation of documents.
- Monetary awards and monthly allowance to gallantry
award winners (Serving & ex-servicemen)
- Progress cases for financial assistance under Raksha
Mantri’s Discretionary Fund
- For widows
- To issue widow Identity cards.
- To assist in settlement of pension cases.
- To provide financial assistance to needy widows.
- To follow up regarding their administrative problems
with Chandigarh Administration.
- Attestation of documents.
- For dependents
- To issue dependent certificate for educational
purposes.
- To settle pension cases of minor dependents.
- For serving personnel
- Any kind of verification asked by the Unit/Records
Office.
- To follow up their problems with Chandigarh
Administration.
Welfare Schemes
The following welfare schemes are being run by this
department:-
- Computer Course – One computer course is
conducted in a year for 25 ex-servicemen/widows and their
dependents for a duration of 6 months at DOEACC (Regional
Computer Centre), Sector: 17, Chandigarh. The course is free
of cost to the students.
- Grant of Scholarship – One time grant of
scholarship of Rs 3600/- given to the wards of
ex-servicemen/widows of UT, Chandigarh who have passed
Matriculation and 10+2 examination with minimum 60% marks
and are studying in next higher class. The students are
selected based on marks scored by them in Board
examinations.
- Financial Assistance – A sum of Rs 800/- per
month is given as financial assistance to those World War II
Veterans who were discharged on reduction of Army due to
demobilization/invalidation without any pensionary benefits.
In case of their death the amount is paid to their widows
till they are alive.
- Funeral Allowance – A sum of Rs 1500/- is being
paid to the NOK of Ex-servicemen on his death.
- Additional pension of Rs 300/- per month is paid
to the widows of personnel below officer rank, whose
husbands died in harness.
- Financial assistance of Rs. 500/- per month to blind ex-servicement
or their children who are resident of Chandigarh.
- Financial assistance of Rs. 500/- per month to the
mentally retarted children of ex - servicemen who are
resident of Chandigarh.
- Financial assitance of Rs. 1000/- per month to ex -
servicement who are resident of U.T. Chandigarh and
undergoing paraplegic treatment in the following
organizations:-
- Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre, Mohali.
- Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre, Kirkee.
- The Red Rose Home for Disabled Soldier, Banglore.
- St. Dunstan's After Care Organisation for the Blind,
Dehradun.
